ラリーズスクールオブバレエの理念を教えてください。“What is the philosophy of Larry’s School of Ballet?”
ダイシン・ムロオカ -「 指導者の好みや理想に引きずられず、生徒たちをよく観察し『それぞれの生徒にとって必要なこと』を指導すること。そして、豊かなバレエコミュニティを築くことです。」
Daishin Murooka:
“Without being influenced by the teacher’s own preferences or ideals, we carefully observe each student and teach what is necessary for them. At the same time, we aim to build a rich and supportive ballet community.”
スクール理念の背景には、先生のご経験や師弟関係が深く影響していると伺いました。”I understand that the background of the school’s philosophy has been deeply influenced by your experiences and your relationships with your mentors.“
ダイシン・ムロオカ – 「私の恩師の一人であるラリー・ロバートソン先生が、もっとも大きな影響を受けられたのが Erling Sunde 氏でした。Sunde氏は英国ロイヤルバレエ団の創設期メンバーであり、バレエマスターとして確固たる伝統と芸術性を持つ方で退団後、米国カリフォルニア州に移住された方です。ラリー先生は米国カリフォルニア出身で、そこでSunde氏に学んだ「クラシックバレエの真髄」を私たちに伝えてくださいました。
さらに、ラリー先生自身が指導を始められたとき、Arthur Mitchell 氏（Dance Theatre of Harlem 創設者・芸術監督）からも助言を得ており、その「教育の姿勢」や「多様性を受け入れる視点」が、私たちのスクール理念に生きています。
私が指導に悩んだとき、ラリー先生が語ってくださったエピソードのなかに、この系譜の重みを感じました。つまり――技術だけでなく、指導者として「生徒に何を伝えるべきか」という姿勢です。私はそれを今、次の世代に伝えていく責任があると感じています。」
Daishin Murooka:
“One of my mentors, Larry Robertson, was greatly influenced by Erling Sunde. Sunde was a founding member of the Royal Ballet in the UK and a ballet master with a strong sense of tradition and artistry. After leaving the company, he moved to California, USA. Larry, who was originally from California, learned the essence of classical ballet from Sunde and passed it on to us.”
“In addition, when Larry began teaching, he also received guidance from Arthur Mitchell, the founder and artistic director of Dance Theatre of Harlem. Mitchell’s perspective on education and his approach to embracing diversity have deeply influenced our school’s philosophy.”
“When I face challenges in teaching, I feel the weight of this lineage in the stories Larry shared with me. It reminds me that teaching is not just about technique, but also about understanding what we should convey to each student as their mentor. I feel a strong responsibility to pass this on to the next generation.”
もう少し詳しく教えてください。“Could you tell us a bit more about that?”
ダイシン・ムロオカ – 「具体的には、バレエに長く携わっていると、どうしても自分自身の好みや美意識のようなものが育っていきます。監督として作品や舞台を作り上げる場面では、そうした個性や価値観を作品に反映させることは自然であり、むしろ必要なことでもあります。しかし、日々のバレエクラスにおける指導で、それを生徒たちに押し付けてしまうのは非常に良くない。指導の場では、自分の好みよりも、生徒一人ひとりにとって何が必要かを常に考え、それに沿って指導を行うことが最も重要だということです。」
Daishin Murooka:
“Specifically, the longer you are involved in ballet, the more you naturally develop your own preferences and sense of aesthetics. When creating works or productions as an artistic director, it is natural—and even necessary—to reflect these personal tastes and values in the performance. However, in daily ballet classes, imposing your own preferences on students is highly inappropriate. In teaching, it is far more important to always consider what each individual student truly needs and to guide them accordingly, rather than following your own preferences.”
